Analgesia/Sedation
For reduction of shoulder dislocations
- Entonox alone or appropriately delivered nitrous oxide is sufficient for most dislocations.
- Rarely, intravenous opiate/sedative analgesia may be needed.
- Please ensure the sedation documentation is completed in all cases.
- The ONLY drugs used by trained SHOs are morphine and midazolam.
- In children we use ketamine sedation / analgesia.
- If he above combination is not suitable, please discuss (with the EM Duty doctor) the use of SLOW, injection of 0.5 -1mg / kg ketamine in such instances.
- Please "Browse Topics" above to the procedures>sedation section of handbook.
